Methodology Study Commission

Working Groups / Methodology Study Commission

The Methodology Study Commission was created to develop a positioning of the Rede ACV and its associates on good practices in methodological issues of the standards that are considered subjective to the LCA.

The specific objectives of the Commission are:
- To promote an environment for sharing expertise
- Contributing to formal positionings
- Increase the quality and relevance of studies performed in Brazil

To this end, the Commission members hold meetings for the alignment of certain topics based on the technical debate and exchange of experiences of professionals on the implementation and review of LCA projects.

Among the topics considered a priority by the members for discussion are:

1. Sources and quality of inventory data for LCA studies and for comparative studies
2. Data collection
3. Assessment of uncertainties in LCA studies
4. Communication of LCA studies
5. Recommended life cycle impact assessment methods for Brazil
6. Practice X ISO: how to meet requirements
7. Function and functional unit as "production" of a given product;
8. End of life allocation criterion
9. Exclusion of impacts/flows in comparative studies
10. Good Organizational LCA Practice

For the year 2020, the Commission has a target to deliver a White Paper on the divergences between the requirements of ISO standards for LCA (ISO14044 and ISO14040) and the practice exercised by LCA practitioners today.
